Yesterday’s Rain Won’t Stop Degenerates of Charm City Wire From Betting Pimlico

Featured, Sports and Bets — April 20, 2013 at 12:27 pm by

Pimlico just can’t catch a break.  For the past two weeks it’s rained on Friday thereby ruining the turf races on Saturday.  So it’s off the turf again with plenty of scratches for today’s card.  Bad weather always makes it tougher to pick ’em.  (It’s already tough enough without rain.)

Resident Handicapper Cliff B gave his picks prior to the downpour.  Unfortunately most of his picks scratched due to the surface change and track conditions.

It seems ridiculous to run the featured race today (The Clark),  12 of the 16 entered for the race scratched due to the surface change.  But either way we’ll pick ’em.  We’ll start with Race 7. Let’s go get ’em.

Race 7 :  (The Stormy Blues 100k Stakes)-  This sprint hs been taken off the turf, but only three horses scratched.  None of the remaining entries really  seem like stakes horses, but we’ll go with the probable favorite #10 Jewel of the Cat.  This miss boasts the highest last out Beyer of the field, and has won on both dirt and grass.  Her breeding also suggests she’ll handle the wet if the track doesn’t dry out.  She’s simply the safest play here.  Round out exacta with the #7 Zip Cash Back

Race 8: (OC 50k)- Cliff really liked the #4 Midnight Call, but of course he scratched.  The #1 Grand Mast is the heavy favorite and is a logical choice but we’ll try and beat him with the #2 Volastic, an improving 3-year-old.

Race 9: (Primonetta Stakes)- Cliff likes the #8 Scrumdiddlyumptious.  If he likes it dammit, so do I.  She’s 12-1 ML so it makes sense to run her in exactas with some of the favorites.  This play could make our day.

Race 10: (The Clark)- I’ll go with circuit veteran #10 Eightofastocatch in this mass exodus of a race.  With only four runners it makes for a very anti-climatic feature.

Race 11: (5k CLM)- For the closer we’ll go with last out winner #2 Not That I Know Of.  Jeremy Rose is aboard and at 6-1 we’re buying.

For the Illinois Derby I’ll go for a long shot #4 For Greater Glory.

Good Luck!

Cliff B and Seabass
