Wild Play For The Orioles Last Night As Seth Smith Scored On His Own Single

Part of the reason Seth Smith was acquired this offseason from the Mariners was because of his ability to get on base, and we saw how important that was Wednesday night when he took a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the 11th to get a win for the O’s.

And although the bases-loaded walk was what clinched the win for the Orioles, the game wouldn’t have even gone into extras had it not been for Seth Smith hustling all the way out of the box on a single he hit in the bottom of the second inning, and taking advantage of a couple Rays’ errors to not only advance a few bases, but to make it all the way home on the same play. Seth Smith’s hustle and awareness essentially turned a single into an inside the park home run. These are the kinds of plays that turn a good baseball team into a great one, and the Orioles currently sit atop the MLB with the best record.
