Ubaldo Stinks It Up, Bats Silent, O’s Shutout 6-0 In Cleveland

The Run Down

Didn’t you fear it was going to be a tough evening for the Birds when Ubaldo Jimenez walked the first two batters he faced Saturday night in Cleveland?  Of course you did, and your baseball watching fears were realized a mere two batters later when Carlos Santana took Ubaldo deep to center to get the Injuns off to a 3-0 start.  Jimenez would then settle in for three innings, but he would regain his horrific form in the fifth, allowing three more runs when Michael Brantley jacked him with a bizzaro-world Earl Weaver.  (A Bizzaro-World Earl Weaver: def: The team the Orioles are competing against hits a three-run home run.) Jimenez’s line would look like this: 4.1 Innings, 5 Hits, 6 Earned Runs, 3 BB, 5 K.  He’s one inconsistent dude.  And his inconsistency is going to get him bounced out of the rotation.  An entre baseball season is full of tough decisions; kicking Jimenez out of the rotation would be an easy decision to make, no matter what the Birds are paying him.

Meanwhile, the O’s wouldn’t have hit water if they had fallen out of boat floating in the middle of the Chesapeake Bay last night.  Cleveland starter Carlos Carrasco went seven strong shutout innings, allowing just three hits, and the Cleveland bullpen kept the O’s baffled in the eighth and ninth, holding the Birds to goose eggs and allowing just one hit.  Four hits isn’t going to get it done and the O’s have started this road trip by scoring one run in two games.

Other Game Notes

Nick Markakis had two hits, since August 5th he is batting .375.

There is nothing else of note to discuss, this was a crappy game for the O’s.

Next Up For The O’s

Today the O’s remain in the beautiful City of Cleveland.

First pitch 1:05

Gausman (6-4) vs Salazar (4-5)

Need to salvage one here, Birds…

Let’s Go O’s!
