Back in the early 2000’s Seabass correctly donned me the “King of Pussy Rock.”  He was right, I admit it. I’ll take a mellow Counting Crows album over Rage Against the Machine any day of the week and I’ll feel no shame.  So I’m compiling this list of the best 100 chill songs.

Let me define what I mean by a chill song, it’s not a pussy boy band song or even a ballad per se. I’m not including any reggae or flip-flop music (aka Jack Johnson) songs. It’s some of the best songs by bands like Oasis, Radiohead, The Killers, and Third Eye Blind. They are songs that you can wind down to or just enjoy for the simple fact that they are amazing songs.

100. Brick-Ben Folds Five: Just recently I realized this song is about abortion.

Drowning slowly in an abortion song.

99. Pure-Trinket: I accidentally discovered these guys in the 1998 opening up for Marvelous 3; they made one album that was really good.

98. Black Rock-O.A.R: Everyone’s favorite local boys made good, this is a great song about finding that one special place where you feel at peace.

97. Coke-Flickerstick: A great song off of a decent album, but then they were never heard from again.

96. Undisclosed Desires-Muse: Very eclectic tune that personifies how unique and talented Muse is.

95. Maybe it’s Just Me-Butch Walker: Butch is one of the most talented musicians today whether its writing producing or performing.

Butch chills to his own sings with a nice Pinot Noir.

94. Let Her Cry- Hootie and the Blowfish: Perfect song to sulk in a beer over.

93. Vaccum Bag-Stroke 9: great west coast band that a lot of people forgot about after “Little Black Backpack.”

92. Monotov’s Private Opera-Third Eye Blind: Stephen Jenkins sings about “how to have a good time-in a mixed up state of mind.”

91. Lover Lay Down-Dave Mathews Band: The best “chill song” provider himself.

90. Ahhh…Men- Say Anything: Don’t let the title fool you this song is ridiculous.

"HA, HA, HA, we got our name from a romantic comedy from the '80's .....HA, HA HA!!"

“HA, HA, HA, we got our name from a romantic comedy from the ’80’s …..HA, HA HA!!”

89. Good Things-The Bodeans: Cool obscure song from the early nineties; I found it on the movie The Program soundtrack.

88. You Found Me-The Fray: The Fray are definitely in the pussy rock category, but that’s what solo car rides are for.

87. She’s Got You High- Mumm-Ra: Great song off the 500 Days Of Summer Soundtrack.

86. I Want To Know Your Plans-Say Anything: “you could hit me or whip me, I’d savor each lash.”

Hey if it's your thing, go for it babes.

85. Our Last Night-Better Then Ezra: great song by a very underrated band.

84. Bittersweet Symphony-The Verve: So what if they borrowed the arrangement-what would rap be without that?

83. The Graveyard Near Our House-The Airborne Toxic Event: ATE is one of my favorite new bands.

82. Regret-New Order:  Gay and angry was a good formula for bands in the eighties.

New Order. On the road, they all slept in the same bed.

81. Black Balloon-Goo Goo Dolls: John Rzeznik probably has a tough time fending off all those cougars that throw themselves at him every night- must be tough living orgasm to orgasm.

80. Mixtape-Butch Walker: Unbelievable live if you ever get the chance.

79. Total Revenge-Say Anything: Max Bemis is the second best lyricist in my mind only to Stephen Jenkins.

78. Back 2 Good-Matchbox 20: The band is named after a pack of matches.

77. Careful-Guster: This song, for whatever reason ,reminds me of The Barn back in its hey day- you know- when it had cool owners!

76. Space Between-Dave Mathews Band: “The Space between the bullets in the firefight is where I’ll be hiding waiting for you.”

Sinatra, an American classic.

64. Until I Fall Away-Gin Blossoms: they were so much better than just “Hey Jealousy.”

63. At the Stars-Better Then Ezra: They are from LSU which probably makes them drunk at least.

62. Sweet Thing-Van Morrison: Still trying to get laid.

61. So Long-Guster: Dude has some pitch that’s for sure.

60. This Time of Year-Better Then Ezra: amazing song that never gets old to me

59. Don’t look back in anger-Oasis: Can you imagine what could have been had Noel and Liam not hated each other-or maybe that’s what made it work.

Oasis. The one dude's a real dickhead, but I'm not sure which one.
