There’s “Mutual Interest” Between The Ravens And WR Victor Cruz To Work Out A Deal

At the beginning of the offseason, if you told me the Ravens big move to get a wide receiver would be to sign Victor Cruz, I’d be PISSED. But at this point, since they’ve done nothing else to bring in weapons for Joe, it at least sounds a little refreshing to hear there might be the tiniest of somethings brewing between the Ravens and a receiver. Cruz is a long ways away from the stud he was for a few years with the Giants, as we all know how his injury history has kept him from getting any real playing time over the past several seasons.

Cruz had 39 catches for 586 yards and a touchdown last season, but he managed just 15 receptions in his last nine games. Not exactly the progress you’re looking for.

Cruz’s injury history speaks for itself. Although he played in 15 games last year, the guy’s availability is as suspect as suspect gets. And with a receiving corps already featuring Breshad Perriman and Michael Campanaro, who have had a multitude of injuries of their own, bringing in an injury prone receiver that you need to count on to make plays is scary.

I don’t hate the idea of the Ravens signing Victor Cruz. In a good offense with a lot of weapons, Cruz could be a nice piece to add on. But I hate the fact that if the Ravens do sign Victor Cruz, they are counting on him for production, because that’s something that’s hard to count on.
