The O’s Week Shall Lead To A Sweep Of The Yanks On Take Back The Yard Weekend

So as the saying goes, what happens in Toronto, stays in Toronto- and for good reason.  That’s the way it goes in baseball sometimes.  You’re never as good as you think you are when you’re winning, nor is it as bad as it  seems when you’re losing.   It’s a game of series and streaks.  The Orioles returned to the states for a 2-2 split with Cleveland, who sit only 2.5 games behind the Tigers in the A.L. Central.  The Birds are back on track.

Last night’s game was highlighted by a huge 5th inning, but let’s not forget the Manny Machado ejection, which was the first of his career.  That may have been just the spark that this team needed to light a fire in the club house and to remind the Orioles of just who they are: a hard playing team with a “never say die” attitude that has  defined a new era of winning Orioles baseball.  What better timing than to get that message on the eve of Yankees weekend.

I know Seabass recently went off on the Red Sox Nation and their annoying fans, but let’s not forget who the original Evil Empire is.  With the Yankees coming to town this weekend, I’m honestly more excited than I can remember for a weekend series, and here is why.  For starters, this weekend will be headlined by ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball.  While it’s not as big as a prime time Monday Night Football game, Sunday Night Baseball isn’t exactly knocking down the doors of the Marlins or the Astros and asking them to come out and play.  It’s clear to see that the Orioles are finally starting to get the National media’s attention. Also, with the Orioles play-off appearance last year, and our current position of second place in the AL East, I expect that the days of Yankee Stadium South have ended. My feeling is that pin stripes and NY hats will be at a minimum this weekend, and that the Seven Nation Army chants will blast out any opposing cheers. This is ORIOLE Park at Camden yards, and this weekend we’re going to make these boys from up North understand that.

Most importantly, though, these aren’t the “budget-less” Yankees of the past.  No, many of their high-priced stars are sitting on the sidelines watching: Jeter, Teixeira, Youk, Granderson, etc. Even the once great A-Rod and the team’s GM are publicly battling, with no lack of profanities.  While they have continued to stay competitive this year, they’re on the ropes and they’re vulnerable. While the Yankees used to consider a weekend trip to B-more an easy sweep, right now, it might be just be the dagger we need to KO the misfit Yankees and to jump start our momentum heading towards the All-Star break.  Maybe I’m being biased, but I’m calling my shot: I’ve got the Birds sweeping the Yanks back to the Bronx.  Now, let’s get down Pickles for a Natty Boh or two before we walk into Camden to protect this Yard.
