The Good, The Bad, and Hopefully Not The Ugly

So far it’s been a tale of two birds in this Astros series.chris-tillman-orioles

The Good-  Chris Tillman:  Tuesday night Tillman was on point, going seven innings and giving up only one earned run.  He also notched eight strike outs in the 4-1 win. The Birds put on a defensive clinic too on Tuesday highlighted by both an Adam Jones running catch in the seventh, and a diving stab and gun by Ryan Flaherty in the ninth.  Go ahead and hit it, we got gold gloves.

The Bad- Freddy Garcia:  After boasting his best two outings of the year in back to back starts, Ol’ Goat Freddy Garcia’s arm suddenly turned to rubber again.  Lots of balls up in the zone, and that nasty slider/splitter stopped sliding and splitting and started looking like a beach ball to the Houston hitters.  Garcia only lasted three innings and gave up 6 earned runs.  Included in the three inning Houston hit parade were 4 home runs.  Ugh.  Steve Johnson and Troy Patton didn’t fare much better, allowing 5 more runs in the 11-7 loss.  At least Hardy and Wieters  homered, and Chris Davis registered two hits, including a frozen rope double.  Nate Mclouth also had two hits and is batting over .300 again.

Hopefully Not The Ugly:  Miguel Gonzalez (2-2 still) goes against Bud Norris (5-4).  Gonzo got beat up in his last outing against the Tigers, so hopefully he’s got a rebound in him.  There has been a lot of inconsistency within the Orioles’ rotation and Miguel needs to be a stabilizer here.  It would be pretty shitty to go into Houston and lose 2 out of 3 to the crappy  ‘Stros, especially since we lost a chance to gain a game on the Sox tonight.

Remember, day time game on Thursday.  2:10 p.m. first pitch.

Let’s Go O’s!
