Ravens Trade Haloti Ngata To Lions

Wow, none of the Ravens’ moves in free agency have surprised me until this one. I definitely didn’t see this coming. Even though it doesn’t sound like much, I’m very pleased with the Ravens’ getting 4th and 5th round picks in exchange for Ngata and a 7th round pick. Hell, I would’ve liked this deal even if the Ravens got a bag of practice balls in return. Ngata spent the first nine years of his career with the Ravens, made five Pro Bowls, and helped them bring home their second Super Bowl. He was a terrific player and a fan favorite in his time here, but at the end of the day, the NFL is a business and this is a smart business move. Ngata’s 31 years old, hasn’t played a full season since 2011, and has 3.5 total sacks the past two seasons. More importantly, trading Ngata frees up a much needed $8.5 million in cap money this season. It’s sad to see Ngata go, but it was a move that the Ravens had to make since he was unwilling to restructure his contract. Thanks for the memories, Haloti, and good luck in Detroit.
