Ravens Stink Up Sunday Night- Lose To Hated Squealers

It’s late and I’m pissed, so I’m just going to keep this short and sweet- even though there’s plenty to complain about if you’re a Ravens’ fan.

The Ravens started off all pretty and giggles, going up 7-0 early tonight on a Joe Flacco to Torrey Smith scoring strike.  The defense looked dominate early, harassing Ben Roethlisberger and bottling up the Steeler run game.  (On one series they sacked the guy you don’t want meeting your daughter in a bar three times in a row.)  But the game quickly changed.  First, Lorenzo Taliaferro gave the ball up on a fumble.  That led to the first Pittsburgh TD pass.  Then, Joe Flacco threw a horrendous pick that set up another Pittsburgh short field and Roethlisberger’s second TD throw.  Suddenly, the Ravens were down 14-7.

The Steelers never looked back and things crumbled for Baltimore.

Suddenly, Eugene Monroe couldn’t block a 36 year, un-retired defensive end in James Harrison.  Suddenly, Joe Flacco was getting killed in the pocket. Suddenly, Gary Kubiak again gave up on the running game.  And then, as the game progressed into the fourth quarter, the Ravens defense melted down and the Steelers broke the game open with a big play to Antonio Brown.  Roethlisberger would tack on another TD (His fifth) to make it 36-17 after Jacoby Jones made it interesting with an impressive 108 yard kick-off return.  At that point, the game was essentially over.  Sure, the Ravens added some points in garbage time, but it was way too little, way too late.

Then, Roethlisberger threw the shit brown cherry on top of this doo-doo sundae by tossing his sixth TD on 4th and 2 with 1:51 left.  (Of course it wasn’t a TD because Matt Spaeth’s knee was down before the ball crossed the plane of the goal line- but what the hell, the officiating sucked so bad, they might as well just give it to ’em.  Right?)  What an awful night for the Purple and Black.

And speaking of the refs, they were just awful.  The Ravens actually stopped the Steelers on a 3rd and 1, just before Pittsburgh completed a drive to put the game out of reach and after a Jacoby Jomes TD that had given the Ravens some gleam of hope. The Steelers were given a full extra yard by the zebras to give Pittsburgh a first down- even after a review. Instead of a punt, the rout was on.  It was another awful call by another awful referee and his crew, but it wasn’t the only poor call of the game. The NFL has a rules and referee problem that it refuses to address. I guess it is what it is.

But the Ravens probably fucked up enough on their own to lose this game anyway.  They are giving divisional games away with turnovers, a porous secondary, and an outright refusal to run the football.  Throw in team stupidity (Enough of the jawing and fighting, play ball and act like pros.) and shitty officiating and winning becomes damn-near impossible, especially on the road.  The last two weeks have been ugly, the Ravens need to get their heads out of their asses before the playoffs slowly slip away.

Good night.  I hope this season gets better quick.

P.S. – Will someone please pry Antonio Brown’s penis out of Chris Collinsworth’s mouth.  While you’re at it, pull Ben’s out of Al Michael’s.  They are usually a solid crew, but tonight they were up Pittsburgh’s ass.  And Michael’s made several errors.  He called Lardarius Webb, Jacoby Jones.  And he called Pittburgh’s number 57, CJ Mosley.  Plus, he agreed with the two obviously terrible ref reviews.  C’mon Al- you’re better than that, babes.
