Ravens Pick Up Brandon Carr’s Option, Decline Howard’s, And Release Danny Woodhead

With free agency set to begin, the Ravens
have some decisions to make. After resigning James Hurst and cutting Webb yesterday, today the news came out that they will pick up Brandon Carr’s option, and cut Danny Woodhead.

I don’t think there’s a person alive who doesn’t like watching Woodhead play. And with the Ravens dink and dunk offense (that would be nice to get away from), he was a good fit. But the backfield was crowded, and Buck Allen proved he could catch passes out of the backfield, and is didn’t have the cap hit that Woodhead had, so the move makes sense.

This one’s a little surprising, since the Ravens nerd cap space, and Carr underperformed often last year. But as the saying goes, you can never have too many corners, and with Jimmy Smith banged up, the best bing Brandon Carr offers is durability, which the Ravens desperately need at one of the most important positions on the field. I don’t hate the move like many will.

They have also let Austin Howard become a free agent after declining his option.

I love this move. Howard was a bum for much of last year, and what I’m guessing the Ravens plan for 2018 is tentatively, is to have the newly resigned Janes Gurst Play left guard, and have Alex Lewis slide out to right tackle. This could all change in the draft however, but right now this move makes a lot of sense. Howard had to go.
