Pretty Obvious That Travis Snider Is Good At Baseball

Now, that’s the way you debut, babes.  Travis Snider, who the Orioles acquired this offseason for two minor league lefties, said his hello to Baltimore fans by going 3-4 with a double and two RBIs today during the O’s 6-2 Opening Day win.  Snider’s first RBI was the first run of Baltimore’s season, and it came with two outs.  Clutch.  His second RBI of the day came in the top of the eighth.  This is when Snider slugged his previously mentioned double to right field.  Steve Pearce should have been gunned at the plate on the play, but Tampa’s catcher, Rene Rivera, stood by home plate and swiped one of the laziest tags at Pearce that I’ve ever seen swiped at a Major League Baseball game.  Pearce, sandbagging it like the ol’ baseball goat that he is, sauntered into home plate and dropped like a 45 degree angled sack of potatoes for the score.  (After a review, of course.)

Snider is replacing a Gold-Glover in right field and today he definitely seemed up to the task.  Snider flashed the glove in right field with a diving catch in the sixth. He also gunned down James Loney at the plate in the fifth.  His leather had us asking this question…

Sure, I know it’s only one game, but Snider packed his lunch and came to play today at the Trop.  Gotta respect the hustle and the multi-facetted skill set he showed off today. It’s easy to see why this guy was once a first round pick, and if he plays like this all season, look the hell out, AL East.
