Orioles regard Pedro Alvarez as an outfielder as he returns to their roster; they think his strong throwing arm will be an asset.

Pedro Alvarez started off slow last year, but then went on to hit 22 bombs as the O’s primary left handed DH.
I love the deal in terms of the money, and the fact that the O’s are bringing back a guy with a ton of power, and a guy who is now familiar with hitting in Camden Yards. What I don’t like is that they’re trying to sell us on the outfielder situation. Pedro Alvarez is not a player that should ever be in the field, plain and simple.
A big question all offseason has been how Trey Mancini fits in with this team. And the Alvarez signing only adds more question. But the fact that the O’s are trying to sell Alvarez as an outfielder makes me think he will only make the team if he can successfully play the field, which is something I have my doubts about. But either way, it is nice to see a guy who can touch off 20 homers back in your organization, I just hope the O’s use him correctly.
