The Rundown

The Birds got the brooms out tonight, sweeping the White Sox in Chicago for the first time since 1995. Wei-Yin Chen was the winning pitcher after holding the White Sox to three runs over 7.1 innings. Chen gave up six hits and a walk while striking out seven. Hector Noesi was solid in defeat, allowing four runs on seven hits while striking out eight over seven innings. The White Sox struck first blood in the 1st inning on a two-run homer from Avisail Garcia. The Birds took the lead after a three-run 4th inning, and would never relinquish it. Their runs came on a solo home run from Professional Hitter Steve Pearce and a two-run bomb from Nelson Cruz.

Adam Jones hit an opposite field solo homer in the 6th to put the O’s up, 4-2. Garcia brought the White Sox one run closer in the bottom half of the 6th on a sacrifice fly. Darren O’ Day was able to get the Birds out of a big jam in the 8th. He entered the game with a one-run lead, runners on first and second, one out, and Jose Abreu and Garcia due up. O’Day struck them both out to preserve the one-run margin. Big fucking onions on that dude. Zach Britton then recorded his 27th save in easy 1-2-3 fashion.

Other Game Notes

Cruz hit two home runs in this three-game series, and looks to be heating up again. His 33 home runs lead the MLB.

Jones went 3-for-4 tonight, and was a blistering 6-for-13 in the series.

Coming into this series, the White Sox had the 8th best offense in baseball. The O’s were able to hold them to only two runs per game. Their starters ended the series with a 2.44 ERA over 22.1 innings, while the bullpen had a 0.00 ERA over 4.2 innings.

Pearce was 5-for-13 this series. The current Pearce at 1st, Delmon Young at DH, and Chris Davis at 3rd alignment is definitely the way for the Birds to go while Manny Machado is on the DL.

Up Next For The O’s

The Birds are off tomorrow, and begin a three-game series against the Cubs on Friday. All three games are day games, so crack those Bohs early and often this weekend.

Friday, August 22, at 2:20 PM on MASN
