O’s Beat Up Lester, Sox In Four Game Series Opener. Plus, How Can We Get Crush To Relax?

The Run Down

Boom.   The Birds pounded out 15 hits en route to their 8-4 dismantling of the Boston Red Sox Friday night. Young beast Jonathan Schoop paced the Birds with four hits and two RBIs from his last spot in the order.  The kid is on fire and Buck Showalter didn’t even want to talk about him in post game for fear of jinxing the blossoming talent.  The future definitely looks bright at second base.

But Schoop wasn’t the only guy hitting.  Nick Markakis notched two doubles including one on the first pitch of the game.  The ball looked foul when challenged, but it kicked up just enough chalk to be called “fair”.  I’ll take it.  Nick would score to give the Birds a 1-0 lead.  I don’t feel sorry for the Sox even if the ball was foul, they get enough damn love from MLB.

It was probably foul…..

Jones, Hardy, and Lombardozzi also had two hits.

Meanwhile Chris Tillman battled and got some key strikeouts when needed.  He threw a mind numbing 122 pitches in 5 full innings and allowed 3 earned runs, but he left with a lead and kept the Orioles ahead by not allowing the big inning.  He deserved a win and didn’t get it against Toronto so he’ll take this one no problem babes.

Chris Davis went 0-4 with three K’s. His slow start is starting to bother me.  I think he’s pressing a bit. It will come Crush, just relax babes.  How can we get the young power monster to calm down at the plate?  May we recommend a shady massage parlor to get ya chilled out, Chris?

Other Game Notes:

Nelson Cruz had a two RBI single.

This was Lackey’s second crappy start in a row, he got bombed by the Yanks last time out.

Tillman’s ERA is now 1.71.

The Birds were 6-17 with runners on base.  (.353 average)

Wait, we just scored again against Lackey….

The O’s didn’t hit a home run.  Where’s the power?
