Orioles Take Stupid Pills Before Extra Innings, Lose To A’s 4-3 In 11.

The Run Down

I can take it when my team gets beat, especially in baseball.  Dust yourself off and turn the page, there’s always tomorrow.  But stupidity makes me insane.  Like, throw remote controls, punch myself in the face insane.  This morning my remote is stuck in the drywall and I’ve got a shiner the size of a grapefruit surrounding my right eye after watching my beloved Birds completely shit the bed against the Oakland A’s last night.  (No need to call the white coats, I’m just kidding folks.)

The Birds ran themselves out of a potential win last night.  Chris Davis got the dumbness to numbness started by trying to turn  a long two out single into a double.  He was gunned at second for the final out.  Then in extras, Nick Markakis was gunned at the plate following an Adam Jones single.  It was the second out.  Has anyone else noticed that third base coach Bobby Dickerson has sent a lot of outs home lately?  Bobby, babes, we are not a fast team.  With the power we possess in this lineup you shouldn’t be so damn aggressive.

Then to make matters worse, Nelson Cruz tried to steal home with two outs and Chris Davis at the dish.  This is beyond comprehension.  Who authorized this?

The A’s would take advantage.  (I’m not even mentioning the error by JJ Hardy in the 11th.)  The A’s are the definition of fundamentally sound.  You can’t get a dumb against them and expect to win, because they will make you pay.  The Birds were trying to do multiplication tables in a calculus class and as a result, they got schooled.

It’s a shame too, because Wei-Yin Chen really pitched a gem.  He scattered five hits over 6.1 innings while waking none and striking out four. He really only made the two mistakes on the two A’s home runs. He deserved better.

Other Game Notes

JJ Hardy had three hits, he is now batting .305.

Manny Machado and Chris Davis both had two hits and both had a home run.  They are getting toasty and warm, babes.

I really wanted Demon Young to pinch hit end it in the bottom on the ninth with JJ on second.  But he struck out to end the inning.  Tough one.

Johan Santana blew his Achilles tendon in a fake game.  Gross and you gotta feel bad for the guy, especially after rehabbing back with his shoulder.  I had a feeling that he really could have helped this club.

What’s Up Next For The O’s

At the Yard 7:15.  Same teams.

Gray (6-1) vs Gausman (0-1)

They are trotting Gausman out against another stud.  (The first time he pitched this year he lost to Verlander.)  This time he needs to produce.
