Orioles Rip Mariners Off AGAIN; Trade Yovani Gallardo For Seth Smith

Great trade AGAIN with the Mariners. First we send over Erik Bedard for Adam Jones, Chris Tillman, George Sherill, amongst others, then it’s third string catcher Steve Clevinger for AL home run leader Mark Trumbo, now we sell our junk to Seattle for a lefty hitting corner outfielder.

Seth smith hit 16 homers in Seattle’s huge ballpark, but only got 378 at bats to do it in. He posted an okay .249 batting average. The concerning number for me is that his doubles were down from 31 in 2015 to 15 in 2016. But he should have no problem showing a significant power increase in Camden Yards. Book him for 25 homers if he plays regularly.

Another good part of this trade is we got to dump unwanted goods. Yovani Gallardo stunk big time last year, and I was far from looking forward to him serving up 88 mph meatballs again this year.

This also means that we can put the talks of Dylan Bundy starting the year out in the bullpen again to rest. Another plus. It looks like this move officially sets the O’s rotation of Tillman, Gausman, Bundy, Miley and ….Ubaldo.

Dan Duquette may suck ass in the free agent signing department, but he sure can pull off a solid trade.
