We’re back, baby!!!

While obviously this isn’t the big offseason move that’s going to get the Birds back in the playoffs, I do think it’s a solid acquisition. Vance Worley has posted a 3.79 ERA over 508.2 career innings. The right-handed hurler’s a decent major league arm, he’s 28-years-old, he’s versatile, and he’s relatively cheap. Last season for the Pirates, Worley went 4-6 in 23 appearances (eight starts) with a 4.02 ERA and 1.42 WHIP while striking out 49 batters over 71.2 innings. In 2014, however, he was actually pretty nasty. He went 8-4 in 18 appearances (17 starts) with a 2.85 ERA and 1.21 WHIP while striking out 79 batters over 110.2 innings. He also came in 3rd in the Rookie of the Year balloting with the Phillies back in 2011.

Worley won’t be the savior for the 2016 Orioles, but at least it seems like he has the ability to give them some productive innings. Does this bespectacled badass look like someone you want to bet against? I didn’t think so, brother.
