Miguel Gonzalez RHP (8-7) vs. Joe Kelly RHP (3-3)

Gonzalez’s Season Stats: 136 IP, 97 Ks, 3.38 ERA, 1.29 WHIP

Gonzalez’s Last Three Starts: 2-1, 22.1 IP, 17 Ks, 1.21 ERA, 0.72 WHIP

Kelly’s Season Stats: 69.2 IP, 49 Ks, 4.13 ERA, 1.39 WHIP

Kelly’s Last Three Starts: 1-0, 17.2 IP, 15 Ks, 2.55 ERA, 1.02 WHIP

Gonzalez will look to continue baffling hitters against a team that he’s been very successful against in the past. In six career appearances (four starts) against Boston, Gonzo is 3-0 with a 2.61 ERA and 1.16 WHIP. He faced Boston once earlier this season, and he earned the win after pitching eight sensational innings. He allowed two runs (one earned) on seven hits and two walks while striking out six.

Kelly is a 26-year-old righty that was acquired from the Cardinals in the trade that sent Dickhead John Lackey to St. Louis. He’s made six starts for Boston, and so far, he’s hasn’t had much trouble making the transition to the American League. He’s 1-1 with a 3.89 ERA and 1.33 WHIP, and has struck out 24 batters over 34.2 innings. He has been wild, though, walking 5.7 batters per nine innings in Boston. This will be his first start against the Birds.

Good News: Nelson Cruz is 1-for-3 off Kelly. Dustin Pedroia is 3-for-11, Mike Napoli is 0-for-4, Davis Ortiz is 0-for-4, Xander Bogaerts is 0-for-4, and David Ross is 0-for-3 off Gonzalez. Kelly’s dorky glasses remind me of rebounding machine Kurt Rambis.

Bad News: Steve Clevenger is 0-for-1 off Kelly. Daniel Nava is 4-for-10, Will Middlebrooks is 1-for-4 with a HR, Jackie Bradley is 2-for-3, and Yoenis Cespedes is 1-for-3 off Gonzalez.

Chris Tillman RHP (11-5) vs. Anthony Ranaudo RHP (3-1)

Tillman’s Season Stats: 182.2 IP, 128 Ks, 3.40 ERA, 1.22 WHIP

Tillman’s Last Three Starts: 1-0, 18 IP, 14 Ks, 2.00 ERA, 1.17 WHIP

Ranaudo’s Season Stats: 23.1 IP, 8 Ks, 4.63 ERA, 1.41 WHIP

Ranaudo’s Last Start (at. NYY): L, 5.1 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 1 K

Tillman will look to keep his gravy train with biscuit wheels on the tracks against Boston. In 14 starts against the Red Sox, he’s 5-3 with a 2.76 ERA and 1.35 WHIP while striking out 66 batters over 78.1 innings. This season, he’s been able to keep them off the scoreboard for the most part, despite finding himself in frequent jams. In three 2014 starts, he’s 1-1 with a 2.81 ERA and 1.81 WHIP. He’s struck out 12 batters over these 16 innings, but he’s also walked eight.

This will be the 24-year-old rookie’s fifth career start. He’s had an impressive minor league career, recording a 3.46 ERA and 1.25 WHIP over 442.2 innings. This season, he posted a 2.61 ERA and 1.20 WHIP over 24 starts for Pawtucket in AAA. This will be his first start against the O’s, and first time seeing any of their current hitters.

Good News: Nava is 5-for-26, Ortiz is 2-for-21, Middlebrooks is 0-for-16, Bogaerts is 0-for-9, and Cespedes is 1-for-6 off Tillman. In 54 career games against the Red Sox, Cruz is slashing .350/.418/.685 with 16 HRs, 45 RBIs, 38 runs scored, and 11 steals. Stay hot, Nelly!

Bad News: Pedroia is 10-for-35, Napoli is 6-for-20, Bradley is 3-for-7, and Brock Holt is 3-for-5 off Tillman.

Wednesday, September 10, at 1:35 PM on MASN

Wei-Yin Chen LHP (14-4) vs. Brandon Workman RHP (1-8)

Chen’s Season Stats: 161 IP, 119 Ks, 3.69 ERA, 1.25 WHIP

Chen’s Last Three Starts: 1-0, 17.1 IP, 10 Ks, 3.12 ERA, 1.44 WHIP

Workman’s Season Stats: 79 IP, 61 Ks, 4.90 ERA, 1.33 WHIP

Workman’s Last Three Starts: 0-2, 16.1 IP, 13 Ks, 6.61 ERA, 1.59 WHIP

Chen has had trouble with Boston over his career, posting a 4.61 ERA and 1.54 WHIP over 10 starts. But he is 4-3 against them, and he has been able to strike out 47 batters in 56.2 innings. This season, he’s been pretty damn good against them. In three starts, he’s 2-1 with a 3.57 ERA and 1.30 WHIP while striking out 17 batters over 17.2 innings.

Workman, a 26-year-old righty, has moved around quite a bit this season. He’s made 11 starts in AAA, 13 starts in the big leagues, and four relief appearances in the majors. Workman has not given up a run to the Birds in his young career, going 1-0 in five appearances (one start). In 10.2 innings, he’s allowed four hits, five walks, and has struck out nine. His lone start came on June 10, and he earned the win after pitching 6.2 shutout innings, giving up only one hit and one walk while striking out four.

Good News: Alejandro De Aza is 1-for-3, Ryan Flaherty is 1-for-3, and Kelly Johnson is only 1-for-6 off Workman, but his hit was a HR. Napoli is 3-for-17 with two HRs, Ross is 4-for-15, Cespedes is 3-for-11, Jemile Weeks is 0-for-5, and Holt is 0-for-5 off Chen.

Bad News: Those three batters are the only Orioles with hits off Workman. The rest of the team has combined to go 0-for-21. Pedroia is 14-for-27, Ortiz is 7-for-18 with a HR, Middlebrooks is 8-for-19, Nava is 7-for-13 with a HR, and Bradley is 3-for-6 off Chen.

Enjoy the games, and let’s go O’s!
