Niagara Falls

The Maryland Terrapins overcame the disappointment of missing the real tournament by dismantling Niagara in the first round of the N.I.T last night.  The crowd of about 500 thankfully didn’t rush the court as the Terps advanced to the next round to face Denver.  Despite my obvious sarcasm here, I’m actually pretty impressed by how the Terps played last night. When you’re a NCAA bubble reject playing in the NIT  it’s gotta be tough to actually give a damn.  Not to mention the fact that every small school team is gonna be gunning for the big boys in this setting.  Juat ask Coach Calipari and Kentucky.  They got kicked out of their own arena, and then got beat by Robert Morris. Robert Morris?  I couldn’t even tell you what state that school is in, much less the last meaningful basketball game they won.  So kudos to Coach Turgeon.  He has his kids playing hard  in this minor league tourney.  Maryland will be on ESPN 14 at 7 p.m. Thursday.  Despite my limited excitement , I don’t have the energy to write more about this game.  For the box score and more go to www.umterps.com
