One of two home run trots for Mr. Jones

Adam Jones hit two home runs tonight.  Both were to the “first row” of the standing room only section in right field.  Both landed only a few feet from each other.  It was a wonderful case of deja vu as the Birds powering themselves passed the visiting, and extremely annoying, Red Sox.   But Jones wasn’t the only Bird to go deep.  Both Manny Machado and JJ Hardy hit solo shots to join the power parade.  With all the dingers, the O’s broke out of their hitting funk in style, and the win versus Boston knocked the Sox out of first place. (Tampa is still on blistering fire and now sits a 1/2 game up on Boston.  Birds are now 3.5 back.)

But the real story may have been Chris Tillman.  Tillman pitched seven sweet innings of shut out ball, allowing only two hits and striking out eight.  Boom, suddenly Tillman has 13 wins.  His early off speed stuff was on point, and that really set the table for some dominant looking sixth and seventh inning strikeouts.  The Ortiz strikeout in the sixth was particularly nasty as Tillman got the old pro to chase some high heat.  Was it me or did Tillman give Ortiz a little look after that pitch?  Pretty fucking sure he did.  You gotta  love Tillman’s attitude and toughness.

Chris Davis had a single and went 1-4 tonight, but he struck out twice and looks a little bewildered at the plate.  According to the experts on Baseball Tonight, he’s being pitched inside, high and tight, and he’s chasing those pitches.  I have complete faith that he’ll adjust and break out of it.  Maybe a day off would help.

Speaking of days off, I suggested that for Manny.  He didn’t need one.  He broke out of his slump tonight with a single, and home run and two RBIs.  Bingo.

Hey Baltimorons, lets keep this place Orange.

Same time, same place tomorrow.
