MetroLux 14 theater in Loveland, Colo., accidentally showed the beginning of the R-rated film Fifty Shades of Grey to an audience of parents and children awaiting The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water on Monday morning.

Joe Jaramillo of Johnstown, Colo., took his granddaughter to the 11:45 a.m. showing of the SpongeBob movie and said that while only the very beginning of the R-rated film was shown in the mix-up, “it was the parents’ reaction to it that was so funny.”

“Some were moving pretty fast to get the kids out of the theater,” Jaramillo said. “The family sitting behind me said what I was thinking: ‘Am I in the right theater?'”

It’s no wonder. Fifty Shades of Grey is a movie adaptation of the best-selling E.L. James book known for its steamy scenes and adult content. The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water has a PG rating and tells the tale of a cartoon sponge teaming up with his friends to save a secret hamburger recipe.

Shortly after, Jaramillo said the screen went blank and children’s movie trailers started showing.

Let me be clear. There is a ZERO percent chance that this was an accident. Guaranteed some sex offender in the control room thought it would be funny to show the kids a couple nude people in cable ties whip each other. The only problem I have with this is tainting the good name of SpongeBob SquarePants with the likes of that chump Christian Grey. SpongeBob raised me to be the man I am today, and for that I’m forever grateful. Fifty Shades of Grey is just trying to make the most of its 15 minutes of fame.
