Meet The Newest Ravens Cornerback, Rashaan Melvin

The Ravens now have four healthy cornerbacks on their roster. Lardarius Webb, Danny Gorrer, Tramain Jacobs, and Rashaan Melvin. What a Pro Bowl caliber line up.

Rashaan Melvin was signed by the Ravens off of the Miami Dolphins practice squad today, and is eligible to play for the Ravens tomorrow against the Tennessee Titans. He went undrafted in 2013 out of Northern Illinois, and currently at 25 years old, the Ravens like his potential. He signed with the Tampa Bay Bucs after the ’13 draft, but spent his first year on injured reserve. He made the team this year, but was released after appearing in two Preseason games, and was later signed to the Dolphins’ practice squad. He is inexperienced, but is a big corner, and after losing Jimmy Smith, the Ravens clearly needed a corner with size. He is 6’2″ and 193 pounds, which is fairly similar to the 6’2″, 209 pound frame of Jimmy Smith that they lost.

It’s a good thing the Ravens play a weak Titans team at home on Sunday, with no high quality receivers to speak of. As long as the Ravens’ front seven can put pressure on Zach Mettenberger, despite a lacking secondary, the Ravens should be good to go on Sunday.
