Talk about a bizarre victory, but hey, you take them anyway you can get them come tourney time. The Terps were down 3-1 in the bottom of the 9th, when things began to unravel for the Monarchs. A double, an error, and a single cut the lead to 3-2. Then a walk loaded the bases. That’s when closer Brad Gero preceded to plunk the next two batters to complete the unorthodox comeback for Maryland. The Terps will face the winner of South Carolina and Campbell tomorrow night at 7.

True story, once in rec baseball my team won a playoff game on a walk-off HBP. One of our worst hitters was at the plate against a kid who threw absolute gas. Everyone on the team assumed that we’d be playing extra innings, until the pitcher uncorked a wild one and drilled our teammate right in the back. He laid on the ground and cried like a baby, while the rest of the team jumped up and down in celebration. He actually had to get carried to first base to make the game officially over. Good times.
