Tillman Vs. Weaver didn’t turn out to be the pitchers duel some of you may have been expecting. Both team’s starters only went five innings apiece. Tillman allowed five runs (3 earned) and Weaver’s 6 six earned gave the Birds a slight one-run lead after the fifth .  The Orioles’ runs came early off of a solo homer from Adam Jones, an RBI single from JJ Hardy,  an RBI double from Manny Machaho, and then the big Earl Weaver from Markakis in the fourth.

The Orioles lead was blown in the top of the seventh because of a bone-head mistake by Ryan Flaherty, which allowed Trout to score from third rather than ending the inning on a routine out. Flaherty hesitated to cover second base, forcing Hardy to double clutch and go to first base with the throw, which was beat by the runner, which then allowed the tying run to cross the plate. After that, both teams would  have trouble scoring and the score would remain locked at 6-6. Tommy Hunter, Darren O’day , Zach Britton and Ryan Webb delivered scoreless relief for the birds, which would eventually bring us to Manny starting the 12th inning.

In his lead-off at bat in the 12th, Manny ended the stalemate and  jacked a 1-2 breaking ball right into the hands of a fan who was several rows back in left field. Oriole’s Magic in MANNNNNY LANNND baby!!!!

These are the types of games average teams go on to lose. But great teams hang on, fight, and pull out the W. Nicely done birds. Keep Grinding.
