“The key to winning baseball games is pitching, fundamentals, and three run homers.” Earl Weaver said that, and damn if it ain’t true.  That philosophy drove the Orioles organization for years, it was the “Oriole Way”.  Unfortunately, the club lost its way in regards to this philosophy during the long lean years of the 2000’s.  Enter Buck Showalter.  Since his tenure began, the axiom of pitching, defense, and power hitting has again become the motto of the entire organization.  If you won’t flash the glove, you won’t play for Buck, babes.

Last night’s win embodied every element of Earl and Buck’s baseball philosophy.  Delmon Young had the three run home run; Chris Tillman, Darren O’Day, and Zach Britton took care of the pitching, and Adam Jones flashed some sick glove.

Up 9-1, Jones is still hustling like Charlie and playing the kind of defense that old Earl would be proud of.  That kind of hustle and flow makes this the play of the year……so far.
