Jonathan Schoop Just Announced As AL All-Star For First Time

Jonathan Schoop has been announced as the Orioles only All-Star, where he will be a reserve second baseman for the American League. To be honest, we could argue all day on which Oriole actually deserved All-Star honors this year. In my opinion, Schoop, Mancini, Brach, or Castillo were all potential candidates. Schoop is putting up a great season, but the competition at second base in the AL is as good as any.

MASN He is now batting .293/.348/.538 with 23 doubles, 16 home runs and 51 RBIs in 79 games. He’s also drawn 18 walks, three fewer than his 2016 total. The on-base percentage, tied with Trey Mancini for the team lead, is a pronounced improvement over his .298 mark last season. He leads the club in doubles and RBIs, and is tied for the lead in home runs with Manny Machado.

It’s awesome to see Schoop receive his first selection, and based off of the year he is having, it is well-deserved.
