The Run Down

Go to war, Agnes, it’s good to be home at the Yard!  The Orioles shook off the cobwebs from their New York road trip to notch a 5-2 win over the prick-ish Toronto Blue Jays.  The O’s hit three home runs in doing so; solo-shots from Adam Jones and Manny Machado, and a two-run blast from Chris Davis.  Machado and Crush’s bombs were in the first inning and the power surge seemed to set the tone for evening. Throw in a Caleb Joseph sac-fly in the sixth frame and the aforementioned Adam Jones bomb in the seventh, and its win time at the Yard.

On the defensive side of things, Ubaldo Jimenez made sure the Blue Jays weren’t up to the task of matching the O’s five runs.  Jimenez pitched very well again tonight, allowing the two earned off of six hits and nine strikeouts in seven full frames of work.  After the pitching horror show that was the Big Apple road trip, Jimenez’s performance was a much needed warm embrace for the bullpen and a sight for sore Oriole fan eyes.  The nine strikeouts was particularly entertaining, especially after watching the Birds whiff time after time on Sunday.  The cure for sports fan pain is definitely having your squad inflict that same pain right on another hated team.

Other Game Notes

Loved the home jerseys with the Baltimore blazed across the chest.  Respect.

Jose Bautista didn’t start, but he did pinch hit with two on in the bottom on the ninth.  He weakly grounded out to third.  I think we said it best in regard to that game ending moment.

Zach Brittain gave me a two out heart attack by allowing two hits in the ninth, but sucker Bautista did the weak ground out trot.

Jimmy Paredes went 2-4.

Chris Davis went 2-4 too with the two-run homer and a single.  He scored in the Jospeh sac-knock. Davis also managed to dodge the Adam Jones post-game pie and he gave Jones a brief death-stare after the pie fell harmlessly to the ground. I fear that Jones may be dead somewhere for pulling this stunt.  Damn, take it easy, Crush.

Next Up For The O’s

Back at the Yard at 7:05.

Buehrle (4-2) vs Tillman (2-4)

Let’s Go O’s!
