The good folks at Heavy Seas have created a Fielder’s Choice beer to commemorate the 20th anniversary of Cal Ripken, Jr. breaking Lou Gehrig’s record for most conseuctive games played. On Septmeber 6, 1995, Ripken played in his 2,131st consecutive game, setting a truly remarkable record that will never be broken. Fielder’s Choice is hitting stores next week, and Heavy Seas will make a domination to the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation for every case sold. From The Baltimore Sun:

“Twenty years ago, Cal Ripken Jr. became baseball’s Iron Man and Heavy Seas started brewing in Baltimore,” Heavy Seas Beer founder Hugh Sisson said in a statement. “Fielder’s Choice celebrates a milestone for both a great local business and a truly great local sports icon. All Baltimore-area residents can share in these success stories, and indeed, in the hopes for continued success in the future for us all.”

Words can’t describe how much I love this concept. Anytime you combine beer, The Iron Man, and charity, you’ve got a home run on your hands. Beginning the week of August 31, Fielder’s Choice will be available at Camden Yards and Leidos Field at Ripken Stadium. Heavy Seas is also running a a social media contest and throwing a release party.

If you’re feeling nostalgic and have roughly 22 minutes to spare, you can fire this up from 1:45:35 to 2:07:22
