Gonzo Gets Birds Right. Baltimore Beats Yanks, 4-3.

The Run Down

Miggy Gonzo got serious tonight.  The right-hander showed the visiting Yankees whose house it was Tuesday night by pitching lights-out baseball for seven full frames in the O’s 4-3 win at Camden Yards.  Gonzalez allowed just one run and scattered four hits while striking out ten and walking only one Yankee.  His command was stellar and he used all of his pitches, including his split finger fastball, which was downright filthy and was responsible for many a strike three.  Tonight’s outing was a “stopper” kind of performance and considering that the Birds had lost four of their last five ,and two in row, it was a performance that this Orioles ball club needed.  I am of the not so humble opinion that Gonzalez is the most underrated player on the team.  He led all starters in Earned Run Average last season and he’s only allowed two runs in two starts this season.  Sharp, babes, sharp.

The Birds took an early first inning lead when Adam Jones welcomed CC Sabathia back to Camden Yards with a blast into the left field bleachers.  Jones then pushed across the second run of the ballgame with a sacrifice fly in the third.  Mr. Adam Jones has gone Godzilla to start the season.  He already has four home runs, eleven RBIs, and he’s batting a gaudy .429.  This dude has come to play this season and that’s a real good thing considering Chris Davis and Steve Pearce have struggled mightily.

Caleb Joseph would then score Delmon Young on a single in the fourth to extend the O’s lead to 3-0.  The Yanks would respond with a Mark Teixeira RBI double in the sixth, which is nauseating because to watch douche bags succeed is nauseating.

After an Evereth Cabrera sac fly in the seventh, the Yankees would make it interesting with a few runs off of reliever Kevin Gausman.  (They were aided by a De Aza error.)  But no worries, Zach Britton stepped in the eighth to record the save- it was his first ever four out save.

While it’s way early in the season, this was a big win for the Birds.  Last night’s defeat was a frustrating loss and the O’s have struggled a bit on the mound.  Gonzalez squashed the O’s bump woes for at least one night.

Other Game Notes

Steve Pearce and Chris Davis combined for five strikeouts.  Hideous.

Caleb Joseph went two for three with an RBI single and a triple.  Dude showed some wheels on that three-bagger.

Gonzalez struck out the side in the seventh inning.  Strength, babes.

Delmon Young went 2-4 and played right field.  Man, ol’ Buck has a ton of flexibility with this team.  Yoga pant-type flexibility, babes.
