The Run Down

After a weekend that saw the Birds sweep the Indians and claim first place in the AL East, it seemed the wins would keep never end.  I almost envisioned a twenty or thirty game winning streak.  All had aligned, the division was ours!  But baseball, like love, is a motherfucker…..

Welp, that big win streak hasn’t quite developed.   Texas, who was slumping before visiting Camden Yards, has gone bonkers with the bats and buried Baltimore pitching over the last two evenings.  Bud “What The Hell Has Happened To Me” Norris was the victim last night and tonight Miggy Gonzo was bludgeoned off the bump after 4.1 innings of mess.  Gonzalez allowed six runs on eight hits and three walks.  That stinks.

Texas starter Colby Lewis wasn’t much better, allowing five runs on six hits.  (Only three were earned.)  But Texas gave Lewis more offense to work with than Gonzo got, so he’ll get the W.

Chris Davis started the ballgame out with a two run jack in the first,  He would duplicate that effort in the third.  After three frames the score was tied at four, but in the fifth the Rangers bagged two solo home runs. Then in the eighth, Mitch Moreland would homer for the second time to give the Rangers an 8-5 lead.  Moreland is killing us this week.

The O’s would mini-rally with two outs in the ninth.  Travis Snider would knock JJ Hardy home with an RBI single to make it 8-6, but Ryan Flaherty would strike out looking on a back door breaking pitch to end the game.

Other Game Notes

Manny Machado stayed hot with a home run in the fifth.

Davis was 2-4 with 4 RBIs.  He is now batting .238 and he leads the team with 49 RBIs.

80’s bully Chaz Roe allowed two runs on three hits in the eighth.

The Rangers have scored 16 runs in two games.  Chen’s gotta stop this nonsense.

Mitch Moreland has four home runs and seven RBIs in two nights.  Stop doing that.

Josh Hamilton went 2-4 in his return.

Brad Brach pitched 2.2 scoreless frames in relief.  Solid.

Next Up For The O’s

Same time at the Yard:

Martinez (5-4) vs Chen (3-4)

Let’s Go O’s!
