The Run Down

The O’s took the series against the Angels with tonight’s 4-3 win. Kevin Gausman was credited with the victory after pitching seven strong innings. He allowed three runs on three hits and three walks while striking out two. Gausman was perfect through 4 2/3 innings, before walking three straight batters, and giving up two straight hits to give the Angels their three runs. The defense behind Gausman was excellent as well, with Nick Markakis and Manny Machado both making highlight reel-worthy plays in the field. The game also ended with a nice play by Machado on a softly hit grounder that Professional Fielder Steve Pearce made a great pick on.

The O’s got to Garrett Richards early, putting up two runs in the first with a two-run homer off the bat of Adam Jones. Jones has now homered in two straight games, and is up to 21 bombs on the year. Despite his sometimes frustrating approach at the plate, that guy can flat out rake. The Birds got their next two runs with two outs in the 4th inning on an RBI double from David Lough and an RBI single from Ryan Flaherty. Yeah, I was pretty fucking surprised by that too. Buck definitely pushed the right buttons with the lineup card tonight.

Other Game NotesĀ

Davis was out for the second game in a row due to him puking and shitting his brains out.

Even though it ended up working out, I was shocked to not see Delmon Young in the lineup tonight. What else does he have to do to get more consistent playing time?

Darren O’ Day pitched a clean 8th inning with two strikeouts. Zach Britton recorded the save, only allowing an infield single while striking out one. Their ERAs are now 1.10 and 1.65, respectively. You should have to be 18 or older to watch these guys pitch. Filthy stuff.

The Birds have only outscored the Angels 21-16 over five games this season, but they have been able to win four out of those five. Very 2012 like.

Richards’ final stat line : 7 IP, 6 H, 4 ER, 0 BB, and 4 Ks.

Mike Trout, Albert Pujols, and Josh Hamilton combined to go 1-for-12 with 4 strikeouts.

C.J. Cron tried to walk to first base on a called strike, and looked like a total slapdick.
