A Friday night on the town led to a bad decision for one Frederick man. Michael McLaughin, 44, was pulled over around 9:30 p.m. Friday night, but there is a twist. McLaughin was the passenger of the vehicle, while his 13-year-old son was in the driver seat. After an investigation, the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office found that McLaughin made his son drive because he was too hammered.

Authorities received a call about an intoxicated man leaving a business with a juvenile on Friday night. They spotted a car that officers had been looking for and initiated a traffic stop.

Without question, this was the wrong move. You really can’t justify breaking one law to follow another, but booze has the tendency to blur your judgement. Getting a cab home is the safe bet, but booze tells you there is a much easier way . McLaughin was charged with neglecting a minor and reckless endangerment, but it seems he avoided a DUI. What he did was illegal, but I’d be lying if I said I’ve never willingly drove underage, all while knowing damn well it was illegal. Your mom have one to many Dirty Banana’s, and 9 times out of 10 your’e jumping to get behind the wheel of her conversion van. Nonetheless, Michael got caught, so he’s a fool.
