Florida Invaders: We Handicap Tampa, Gulfstream

Featured, Sports and Bets — March 8, 2013 at 11:13 pm by

The premiere 3 year-olds in the country turn their attention to the Tampa Bay Derby.  Two recent Tampa winners went on to win the Kentucky Derby (Street Sense, Super Saver), so this race is definitely legit despite it’s seemingly lower profile in comparison to other Derby preps.  So we’ll give you Tampa and Gulfstream, where Seabass will betting the ponies live.  Good Luck.

The Tampa Bay Derby

Here we go equine fans. It’s another major prep for the 3 year olds with the Kentucky Derby in their sights. We venture down to Florida to Tampa Bay Downs for what usually amounts to minor league racing. Yes,the house that George Steinbrenner built takes center stage this weekend for the best day of racing that their meet offers. The Tampa Bay track is overrun by an army of transplanted New Yorkers rockin’ their bermuda shorts and calf -length black socks. What a sight these old farts are. As they sit outside, leaning on the rail with their wrapped up corned beef sandwiches, they look like they are in heaven. Boy, I hope I value my retirement that much.

Nevertheless, I took a thumping last week at Aqueduct but i just know I will bounce back this week. Speaking of bouncing, Verrazano looks to good to be true in the 10 th race feature, The Tampa Derby. He steps up in class, and it will be a very crowded field for him this time around. That usually equates to having no breathers during the race, which means he bounces.

We like #5 Dynamic Sky..Use him with #3 Honorable Dillon, and #7 Offlee Fast

What a day it promises to be here  in Southern Florida.  Gonna be 78 and sunny at post time.  But enough about the weather, let’s make some money.  Last week was tough, but I managed to break even with a cheap exacta score and favored winner.  I need a breakout weekend, so let’s go get ’em.

We’ll start with the 4th race.

4th Race–#10 Midnite Aria, #3 Boys of Summer, #2 Fifth Ave Fancy:  #10, hunch longshot play get Castellano, cutback against average field.

5th Race–#5 All Alex, #6 War Dancer, #4 Oisten’s Town: #5, Rudy will have him ready, breeding suggests he’ll want the distance.

6th Race–#4Groomedforvictory, #8 Tiz Yankee, #7 He’s Spectacular:  #4 This old pro seems best here, new trainer a question though.

7th Race–#9 Bold Dance, #2 Archer Hill, #10 Pyrite Mountain:  #9 looks all system go, Mott will see to that.

8th Race– #6 Steel Dust Dancer, #4 Red Rifle, #2 Bob and the Gang: #6 is a first timer with nice work tab.  Barn does well with these.

9th Race–#6 Hobbs, #7 Hyper, #5 Finale: #6 Always tries hard.  We love that in a horse.  Gets the nod in this competitive turf battle.

10th Race–#3 Fort Larned, #4 Discreet Dancer, #3 Fort Loudon: #3 Classic winner is a beast.  This should be a walk for him despite layoff.

11th Race–#6 How Cheeky, #9 Tiger Quay, #1 Summon The Rain: #6 has decent recent work tab.  10-1 longshot special.

Have fun at the races!  Good Luck!
