Make It Rain Tommy!

Lap dances for everybody!  Tommy Hunter better take Manny Machado and Chris Davis  to the best damn strip club in Boston tonight.  The two sluggers were the keys to the Oriole’s 5-run ninth, as they each belted home runs to power the Birds past the hated Red Sox.  Machado’s blast was of the Earl Weaver variety (3-run homer), and it proved to be the game-winner. Meanwhile, “Home Run” Hunter lived up to his nickname and almost blew a decent start by Jake Arietta by allowing two Boston home runs in the 6th.  At that point the score was 5-3 Boston and it looked pretty god-damn dismal until Davis sparked the ninth with his lead off home run.

Is it just me, or does  Buck Showalter seem to be thinking  about making Hunter his 5th and 6th inning long reliever?  Luis Ayala was that guy but he’s no longer with the firm .  (He was traded to Atlanta.)  Making Hunter the go- to long reliever  would  be akin to making Jim Leyritz your go-to designated driver.  Hunter may throw gas, but he throws it right down the middle.  Hopefully this is just an experiment that will  quickly be deemed a failure.

How sick were the two at-bats by Ryan Flaherty and Nate Mclouth in the ninth?  Flaherty got his first hit of the year with a clutch-ass, two out single to left.  Alexi Casillas pinch ran for Flaherty and was the tying run on the Joe Hanrahan wild pitch.  Mclouth battled big time to draw a two out walk.  Machado was the next batter and took care of the rest.

Can you say implode?  Joel Hanrahan was a disaster, giving up 5 earned runs in 2/3 of an inning.  I love it. That name Hanrahan always reminds me of this classic Fletch clip…

Rubber match is tomorrow night.  Tillman (0-0) vs Aceves (0-0)
