What a sight for sore eyes it was to see Chris Davis hit the ball out of the yard with the bases loaded.

The Orioles began this series with a bang after putting 9 runs on the scoreboard. 3-run homers are nice, Earl Weaver, but grand slams ain’t bad either. Chris Davis has to feel a lot better about himself after delivering the big four-RBI hit on Friday night.

Miguel Gonzalez had an impressive showing, going seven frames while allowing only one run. He struck out six, while allowing only four hits and one base on balls. His season ERA is now 3.61, and he’s quietly having a great season for Baltimore. This guy deserves far more credit than he’ll ever get. He picked up the win to improve to 7-7 on the year.

Other Game Notes:

The Grand Slam was Davis’ 24th homer of the year, and he has now driven in 67 runs. Numbers like these seem almost unexplainable with that awful .189 batting average he’s sporting.

Delmon Young hit his 7th homer of the year on a two-run blast to help break this game open. He continues to provide a great offensive boost from the O’s bench in the absence of Machado, as he has a season average of just below .300.

Steve Pearce left the game in the 4th inning due to abdominal discomfort. He has said he is not in pain, just uncomfortable, and is expected to not miss any significant time. Consider him day-to-day for now. He is scheduled for an MRI Saturday morning at 9:30.
