Cliff Picks The Wood Memorial

The three year old prep races move into high gear this weekend.  Saturday’s  prep races vary in location but both will be run at the same distance.  The Santa Anita Derby in California, as well as The Wood Memorial in New York will be contested at one mile and one eighth.  The Kentucky Derby distance , at one mile and one quarter,  will be a new distance to all 3 yr. olds come the first Saturday in May,  but these horses have to take the added distances as a natural progression to their development.   When they are finally asked to run the Derby distance it is still such a hidden variable. What a difference an extra furlong can mean.

Here we go with the Wood Memorial, running at Aqueduct, New York and a few other nuggets you may need…

Race 11 The Wood Memorial:  It’ hard to go against Verrazano, so I wont. But I really like another  horse to hit the exotics in the #9 Go Get The Basil. After a lackluster start to his career, my favorite NY trainer has him in peek form, and this trainer would never try this if he did not think he was ready.  Also use Vyjack, Normandy Invasion, and Elnaawi to fill out the Super.

!0th Race:  #1 Saturday’s Charm runs ’em down late..

9th Race:   #1 ClawBack   Nice Horse-Nice race

8th Race:   #1 Walkingwithapurpose–Kevin Plank has a nice horse here

7th Race:    #1 Danceteria   Use him with the #12  Wise Guide

6th Race:  #3 Do I Amuse You, and the #5 Skyhook

Good Luck!  Go win one for the Cliffer.
