Chode’s College Football Picks: Week 9

Sports and Bets — October 24, 2014 at 12:22 am by

After another winning week I’m sitting at a solid 12-8 on the season. We’re starting to pull ahead in the race against the bookies, but now it’s time to leave those bastards in the dust. Here were go.
Game 1 : BYU @ Boise St         Friday Night Special    9 PM   ESPN

Line: Boise -7

Chode’s Pick: BYU Cougars

While BYU is 4-3 on the season, they are coming into this game on a three game losing streak. You can look at that two different ways. Either the skid continues, or the cougars come away with a big prime time win. I’ll go with the version where the Cougars are due for a win. Boise is 5-2, but their wins are not impressive. I’ve also always personally hatted Boise and their BS schedule.

Besides, who doesn’t like a Cougar?

Game 2:    #6 Oregon @ California       Friday Night Special  10 PM  Fox Sports 1

Line: Oregon -18.5

Chode’s Pick: California

I laid a lot of points last week when I took Oregon. That move paid off, but that was last week. I don’t think the Oregon Ducks can do it again. I like the California Golden Bears to keep it close in California this weekend. Cal, at 4-3, has some decent wins under their belt like Northwestern and Washington State, as well as some close losses to Arizona and UCLA. Those close losses show me that even when Cal losses, they do enough to keep it tight, and that’s exactly what they do this Friday night.
Game 3:    Louisiana Tech @ Southern Miss     3:30 PM Saturday (Good luck finding this one on TV)

Line:  LA Tech -10

Chode’s Pick: Southern Miss Golden Eagles

Both of these teams have played some big time SEC teams. I am not focused on the record as much as the level of competition they have played, regardless of the outcome. Southern Miss went into Alabama and into Miss State. I’ll take Southern Miss at home getting 10 against Louisiana Tech anytime after that schedule.

One Comment

  1. Only a chump would pick the Southern Miss vs La Tech game. Stick to the games the big time players play in. Oh sorry- you got a losing record when picking power 5 conference games.
