Chode’s College Football Picks are Back: Week 1

Featured, Sports and Bets — August 29, 2014 at 7:08 am by

For anyone following at home last season, I turned in just shy of 70% winners for my College Football picks against the spread. I’ll try and keep that trend going for year two. Hoping to get things started in the right direction with a strong first week. Without further ado, here are my Week 1 picks, boys and girls.

Game 1:  #5 Ohio State Vs Navy

12PM at M&T Bank Stadium

Line: Ohio State -16.5

Chode’s Pick: The Midshipmen

No, I haven’t lost my mind already. With Braxton Miller out for the season, there will be a lot of pressure on a young QB under center for the Buckeyes. Look for Navy to keep it closer than you think. If you are laying some capital down on the game you might as well make a day out of it. Go check out the game in Baltimore at Noon, hit the new Casino next door, and then roll that into the Orioles game at 730.  Why not?

Game 2: Cal @ Northwestern

Line:  Northwestern -11

Chode’s Pick: Cal

The Golden Bears had an awful 2013 going 1-11, but Northwestern wasn’t a powerhouse at 5-7, either. Even on the road I like Cal to keep this opening game within reason.

Game 3:   #14 Wisconsin vs #13 LSU

* Game in Houston TX    9PM

Line: LSU -5.5

Chode’s Pick: THE BADGERS

I hate betting against the SEC, especially on the road. But damn if I don’t like the Badgers Saturday night. Wisconsin is a solid Big Ten team who went 9-4 last season. The Badgers posted the 8th most offensive yards on the ground, and they allowed the 6th fewest points per game in the NCAA last season. Running the ball and playing defense sounds simple, but that’s my kind of football, baby. Smash Mouth!

Lets get this season started right!!!!!!
