The Run Down

Sometimes it’s easy.  Sometimes a crappy team rolls into town.  Sometimes a starter tosses eight full innings of art.  Sometimes a team makes the most of their offensive opportunities.  And sometimes all three of theses things happen at once.

That’s exactly how it went down last night at the Yard.  It was a perfect baseball storm for the Birds as they cruised to a seamless 4-0 win over the visiting Philadelphia Phillies.  The Phils stink, they’ve won seven games on the road all season.  Wei-Yin Chen was masterful on the mound pitching eight full innings.  He allowed just four hits and he walked only one, all while striking out nine.  Chen never faced more than four batters in an inning.  Shutout city, babes. Chen’s ERA is a paltry 2.89.  The fact that he has only three wins is bizarre.)

The Birds also made the most of their limited offensive opportunities.  The Birds only logged five hits against Philly starter Aaron Harang, but four of those hits helped create the Orioles four runs.  In the fifth Travis Snyder doubled and a JJ Hardy single brought him home.  And in the sixth, Paredes singled and then Chris Davis walked before Wheat went Earl Weaver on Hard-Luck Harang.  That’s productive and clutch hitting, babes.

Other Game Notes

The O’s have won seven of their last eight and are now one game over .500.

Chris Davis went 1-3 with a walk.

Zach Britton pitched the ninth.  He struck out two and didn’t allow a base runner.  Slam the door, babes.

Phillies third baseman Maikel Franco got chucked by blue for arguing ball and strikes in the seventh inning.  Despite his arguing, he was still out.

Chase Utley had a hit, but he is batting .187 on the season.  What the hell happened to that guy?

Next Up For The O’s

Williams (3-6) vs Tillman (4-7)

Let’s Go O’s!
