Buck Giving the Ball To Tillman For Opening Day – And We Love It

There are a lot of baseball games played every season.  Maybe who starts the first game of the year really doesn’t mean that much in the grand scheme of things, but it is still a pretty big honor. Buck officially announced Monday afternoon that Chris Tillman would get the nod against the Red Sox on Monday March 31st, when the Birds open the season at Oriole Park at Camden Yards.

“Chris Tillman Named this Years Opening Day Starter”

While the Orioles didn’t draft Tillman, he has been with the organization since the ’08 season, and he has developed as an Oriole player. Last season he took a huge step forward.  With a 16 -7 record and a 3.71 ERA, Tillman became the backbone, and ace, of the staff. He’s ready to prove that even with new additions to the ball club he can still be a top starter.  I like Buck sticking with “his” guy, and sticking with a player who’s earned the honor of being the Opening Day starter while wearing black and orange.

“Tillman is Going to Take it to Those Bean Town Pricks on Opening Day”

The atmosphere on Opening Day is going to be electric here in Baltimore. The world champion Boston Red Sox come to Charm City to open the season. The Orioles, after back-to-back winning seasons and a great off-season, will look to kick off a more than “competitive” season by beating the crap out of Boston. Glad to see Tilly is going to be the guy to take the mound that first day. No doubt in my mind  Tillman will step up for the occasion and throw a gem, allowing the Birds to start 2014 the right way.
