Birds Take Series, But Lose B-Rob

Brian Roberts has been quite fragile the past three seasons.  Make it four.  The oft-injured 2nd baseman hurt his hamstring while attempting to steal a base against the Rays Thursday afternoon.  This is awful news for Roberts and we here at charmcitywire are hopeful that it’s not serious,  but from the way they carried him off the field, it looks pretty damn serious.  It sucks double because Roberts had played his ass off the last three days, and his impact on the Oriole’s lineup is obvious.  Roberts will get an MRI Friday and we’ll try to remain cautiously optimistic.

But some good things did come out of the Orioles’ first series.  The Birds took two out of three from the Rays, a team many consider the  favorite to win the American League East.  In fact Tampa should feel lucky they didn’t get swept.  The Orioles looked like the better team all week.

The Orioles starters looked great.  Hammel beat Cy Young Winner Price, Chen looked solid and allowed only 2 runs, and my boy Miguel Gonzalez pitched lights out today, going into the 7th and also allowing only 2 runs.  We’ll see if Arrieta can keep this rolling tomorrow.                                                                                                                                                                                         cd

Chris Davis is on pace for 162 home runs and  594 RBIs.  Adam Jones tweeted that Davis has “found the big boy pants”.   Jones couldn’t be more correct.

Looking forward to the home opener. See you at the Yard babes.
