The Run Down

Easy to analyze this one.  Pitching wins games.  Chris Tillman went seven stellar, shut-0ut innings, allowing just four hits and striking out six.  Then new Bird. Andrew Miller, entered in the eighth and got ’em three up, three down, striking out two as he went along.  Then Zach Britton slammed down the ninth to record his 23rd save.

Pitching like this wins divisions.

Nick Markakis provided the offense with his first ever lead-off home run.  The Orioles could have conceded the rest of their at-bats and all twenty-seven of their outs for the rest of the afternoon and still won the game. That’s pretty damn cool.

Now let’s celebrate the O’s shutting down the M’s offense with some old school Public Enemy…..

Other Game Notes

Nick Markakis had three of the O’s five hits.

Not to be a Donnie Downer, but the Birds are slumping as a club.  Nobody, besides Delmon Young, is batting over .300.

Chris Davis is tough to watch at the plate these days.  He is now batting .194 and I am extremely confused.

Next Up For The O’s

Makeup game in DC tonight at 7:05 with the Nats before travelling to Toronto for a huge series.
