Birds Order Up Mclutch Happy Meal as Youth Beats Experience

The Orioles are 12-12 versus the Yankees since the start of 2012.  Both teams had scored 112 runs apiece heading into last night’s game.  The Orioles now lead by one in both departments.  The Birds rallied again against a dominant starter to win their second in a row and to take game one in the weekend series with the Evil Empire, 4-3.

C.C. Sabathia was lights out for five innings, in fact he had kept the Orioles hitless for those five frames.  But the lights came on for Baltimore in the sixth.   The bad boys of Baltimore came alive with four hits and scored three runs to tie the game.  The inning was keyed by Manny Machado’s two run double and Manny’s decision to  tag to third on Markakis’ fly out to left.  That’s right, Manny broke one of Baseball 101’s rules by going to third when he noticed Brett Gardener was catching the ball flat-footed.  (In other words Gardener wouldn’t be ready to immediately throw after the catch.)  The gamble paid off because Machado would score on Adam Jones’ dribbling infield single.  The Muchach is one hell of a ball player.

The Birds would take the lead to stay in the seventh with Nate Mclouth’s home run onto the flag court. I’ll have Mclutch happy meal please babes.

First Win Of Many

First Win Of Many

Kevin Gausman was the winning pitcher against Sabathia.  He didn’t start like we whined and complained for, but he came in when TJ McFarland allowed three runs in 2 2/3 innings. Gausman answered the call by pitching 4 1/3 innings of scoreless ball.  It was beautiful babes.  Youth beats experience.

TJ got his first career win in relief of Gausman.  Interesting coincidence.

We also whined and complained for Tommy Hunter to get a shot as the closer.  Maybe Buck reads this blog.  Hunter recorded a six out save, and he looked damn near dominant in getting it.  This is not a sign of things to come though, Buck apparently told JJ he wasn’t going to use him last night  before the game even started.

The Chode’s prediction of a sweep is now only two game away from coming true.  Think big or go home.

Take back the Yard weekend continues tonight.
