Birds Lose Again But Get Four All-Stars

Time to step up Jay.

Time to step up Jay.

It’s getting ugly.  The Orioles have lost four out of their last five contests and are now six full games behind the white-hot Red Sox.  In fact with today’s 5-4 loss to the Evil Empire, the Orioles have fallen into third place while being leap-frogged by, you guessed it, that same Evil Empire.  So it’s Red Sox, Yankees  now 1 and 2 in the division again.  Give me a fucking break.  It won’t get any easier for our boys either with Hiroki Kuroda on the bump for New York tomorrow and the Texas Rangers coming to town for four games starting on Monday. I’m too bitter to go into these back-to-back losses any further but let’s just say the Birds really need a big effort from Jason Hammel tomorrow.

In good news, Chris Davis hit his 33rd home run today.  Davis had 33 home runs all of last year. He is on pace for 61 for the season.

In other good news the Orioles had four players selected to the  A.L. All Star squad.  Adam Jones, Chris Davis, and J.J. Hardy will start while Manny Machado will be a reserve.  The only reason Manny’s a reserve is because he plays third base.  Unfortunately for the Macho Man, Miguel Cabrera also patrols the hot corner in Detroit.

In other good news it looks like Wei-Yin Chen will be back this week.  Hopefully the Birds can nail down this rotation.  Every week seems like a scramble in trying to determine who’s gonna start for this club.  It would be nice to see the entire  pitching staff in defined roles for a while.

I still think the Orioles should pursue more pitching via the trade market.  Reliever Jesse Crain and his 0.74 ERA could add a lot to this team.

Tomorrow they play during the day in the Bronx.

Hammel (7-5) vs. Kiroda (7-6)

Let’s Go O’s!
