The Muchach

I know it’s not always the case, but I love it when good National League Pitchers face real lineups and get smoked.  That’s exactly what happened here at Camden Yards today.  Hyun-Jin Ryu and Josh Beckett had both been pitching well up until today. Today they faced life in the A.L. East, and it didn’t go well for them.  In the first game Ryu was given a 4-0 lead but still couldn’t withstand the Hardy, Pearce, Reimold onslaught.  (These three players accounted for all 7 of the Orioles RBI’s.)  In game 2 Josh Beckett got schooled by our boy, Manny “The Muchach” Machado.  Machado had 4 RBI’s including an Earl Weaver special. (If you don’t know what that is than I don’t want you reading my blog.)  The Oriole bats are definitely clicking, and it’s especially good to see Reimold come to life at the plate.  He has real power and could be a 30-35 home run guy if he stays healthy. Reimold has 3 homers in the past 6 games.

Wei-Yin Chen

Chen got the win in Game 2

Chris Davis hit his 7th home run in game 2, it was a monster shot to center.  Adam Jones was the DH in game 2.  He had an RBI double.

It was good to see the Birds finally take advantage of a great Wei-Yin Chen start (Game 2).  Chen didn’t allow a hitter past 1st base after the first inning.  Hammel had a rocky two innings, but settled in and battled through the sixth (Game 1).

Brian Matusz is Buck’s go-to-guy in tough situations.  He bailed out Pedro Strop’s ass when Strop loaded the bases in the 7th.  Matusz got the last two outs to end the inning and strand all three runners.

Lo and behold, Tommy Hunter is shutting me the fuck up lately.  He pitched three scoreless innings in game 2 and earned his first career save.
