Birds Drop Series To The Evil Empire

Sometimes you just gotta take it like a man.  Hiroki Kuroda pitched a five hit complete game shutout last night as the Yankees blanked the Birds 3-0.  Kuroda always seems to have the Orioles number, and last night was no exception, as he dominated the Oriole lineup with his two seem fastball.  The Orioles couldn’t get it done again for poor ol’ Wei-Yin Chen, who can’t seem to catch a break in the early part of this season. Chen had only one bad inning, the 5th, but that one poor frame was enough for the evil empire to steal the series from the Birds.  In that 5th, Brennan Boesch scored on a Jayson Nix sacrifice fly, and then Brett Gardner ripped a shot that hit the right field foul pole.  If that foul pole hadn’t been there that damn ball might still be travelling, Gardner hit it that  hard.  It was Gardner’s first home run versus a lefty in 198 at-bats, or almost three years.

If the Orioles aren’t hitting home runs, the Orioles simply aren’t scoring. Of course last night there weren’t many chances with only one Oriole runner reaching second all night.

The Birds have the day off before starting a 9 game home stand.  Get your asses to the Yard!

Go O’s!
