Birds Drop Another One As Stars Continue To Slump

Aaaarrrrghhhhh! This past week and a half has been brutal if you’re an Orioles’ fan.  The Birds are stinking it up and if it isn’t the offense, it’s the pitching.  If it isn’t the pitching, it’s the offense.  I mean the Birds couldn’t even win tonight despite the Rangers committing three errors.  Texas was trying to give it away, and Baltimore just wouldn’t take it.  The clutch hitting has virtually disappeared. But tonight it was really the pitching that fell apart as Zach Britton got touched up in the fifth courtesy of a three run home run from Oriole killer Adrian Beltre.  (It was his second round tripper on the night and the bastard finished with five RBIs.) Britton had been pitching well recently, but tonight he just couldn’t get out of the fifth in tonight’s 8-4 loss.  That lack of  starter stamina has been a problem for this staff all season.  Maybe Wei-Yin Chen can help change that tomorrow night in his first start back from injury. Chen will give more stability to the staff, and I’d love to see that stability start tomorrow night with a solid seven innings.

The two big dogs in the lineup have been struggling.  The offense has sputtered recently as our dynamic duo tries to find their All Star form.

Adam Jones, by his own admission, is chasing awful pitches at the plate, his average has plummeted over the last four weeks.   He’s now batting .288.

Chris Davis is slumping as well.  He’s 1-21 over his last six games.  In a month his average has gone from over .350 down to .313.

At least Manny is still grinding. Manny Machado had a hit tonight after having three last night.  He is batting .315 and now leads the team in batting average.

In more angry news, Nolan Reimold has added nothing since his return.   Mclouth looks way better out in LF and Reimold is only batting .191.  I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s the guy sent down to Norfolk to make room for Chen.  Reimold needs to get into a rhythm quickly.  He’d be a great help if he could get back to April of 2012 form, but with Henry Urrutia quickly climbing the minor league ladder, Reimold is making himself very expendable.

I know it’s along season, but the Birds are in an awful funk.  The Birds can’t keep losing ground to the Sox.  Hopefully they can just snap out of it before the All Star break.  But if they can’t will the Birds make another move?  Buck and Danny aren’t afraid to rock the boat.  They want to win, and win now. If the wins don’t come soon, I have a feeling that the boat will start rockin’ sooner than later.

WTF? The fans are even screwing up with the foul balls.
