Birds Destroy Royals 9-2, Win Fourth Straight

It’s like a Top Forty Radio station DJ said in the mid-eighties, “The hits just keep on coming!”.  The Orioles are pounding the baseball and tonight was no different.  Kansas City starter Wade Davis didn’t stand a chance tonight as the Birds chased him after four runs in just 2 2/3 innings.  Poor little Wade’s friends didn’t fare any better as the Birds tacked on five more runs after Wade departed.  O’s starter Scott Feldman, on the other hand, pitched eight strong innings, again justifying the mid-season trade that brought him here.  (And we still don’t have to see Pedro Strop pitch.)  Feldman allowed  two runs while scattering five hits.  Again an Oriole starter went deep into the game.  It all begins with the starting rotation, and this rotation has begun the second part of the season in stylish fashion.  Beast mode on the bump babes.  Jason Hammel has next.

Back to the hitting.  JJ Hardy is blazing and had three hits tonight, one of which was a two-run home run.  He finished with 3 RBIs.  Nick Markakis and our boy, Henry Urrutia, also had three hits.  Illegal stogies and Cuban sammies for everybody.  This dude just looks like a great hitter right out of the gate.

Crush Davis went 2-4 with 3 RBIs.  He now has 97 on the year.  Mclouth, Jones, and Wieters all also had two hits.

The Birds have won four straight, are 14 games over .500, and sit only 2.5 games behind the first place Red Sox.  Boston lost to Tampa Bay tonight.  Tampa’s going to be a serious problem for everybody down the stretch.  We get Boston at home this weekend.

But we need to remain in the now….one game at a time.

The boys in Black and Orange go for 5 in a row tomorrow night.

Hammel (7-6) vs Chen (3-0)  Yes it’s ex-Oriole Chen.  I can’t believe he’s still in baseball, especially pitching this well.

Let’s Go O’s!
