Birds’ Bats Sputter In Tampa “Home” Game

The Run Down

Not much to say here.  The O’s got shut the hell down tonight down in Tampa for the opener of their home on the road series versus the Rays.  Tampa starter Alex Colome had the Birds baffled for five full frames, allowing just three hits and striking out six.  Four Ray relievers would finish what Colome started, blanking the O’s for the remainder of the evening, allowing only one more Baltimore hit and striking out seven Birds.  The O’s struck out 13 times as a team tonight and they never managed to get past second base.  It just wasn’t a good night for the O’s bats.

Chris Tillman took the hard-luck loss despite having great stuff.  C-T-3-0 went seven full innings and struck out seven while allowing just three hits and two earned runs.  He also walked two.  Tillman retired eleven straight batters before a walk to Asdrubal Cabrera in the fourth with two outs.  Tilly killer Evan Longoria would double Cabrera home and then James Loney would single Longoria home.  Those two runs were the only bumps in the Tilly road, but they were enough for the Rays to pick up the “road” win.

Other Game Notes

Manny Machado committed his sixth error on the young season in the eighth inning. I don’t even know what the hell to say about that.

Every Oriole except for Caleb Joseph struck out at least once.

Young, Paredes, Machado and Joseph logged the four Baltimore hits.  They were all singles.
