Baltimore City Will Begin Issuing $50 Citations If You Haven’t Cleared Off Sidewalk

I will be the first person to say that the snow crews have been kicking some serious ass. Overall, it’s amazing how fast they cleared out a majority of the roads in and around Baltimore. As I said, a “majority” of roads. There are numerous city streets that are still untouched, so it seems a bit odd to begin issuing fines for a snow-covered sidewalk. Although the city extended the time frame to have your sidewalk cleared, there is no doubt that some residents will flip their shit.

FOX Beginning Wednesday morning Baltimore City will begin issuing citations for un-shoveled public sidewalks. Baltimore Housing Commissioner Paul Graziano said the city extended the ordinance from six hours to three days, “given the magnitude of the storm.” Starting Wednesday the city will issue $50 citations to homeowners and $100 citations to owners of commercial properties who have not cleared a two-foot wide path on public sidewalks in front of their home or business. Property owners are also reminded to not obstruct gutters or storm drains.

I’m sure trapped residents are on edge, but at the end of the day they probably understand it takes time to hit every street. With that said, slapping a $50 citation on a door will throw any patience right out the window. More importantly, once a plow truck hits these side streets, you can kiss that clear sidewalk goodbye…
